A foodstuff or supplement for an animal comprises one or more of glucosamine hydrochloride (GH), N-acetyl-D-glucosamine (NADH), methylsulphonylmethane (MSM), chondroitin sulphate (CS) and hyaluronic acid (HA), as well as piperine or an isomer thereof. The isomer of piperine may include chavicine. The foodstuff may be for uptake by equine or canine animals, and may be provided as a powder soluble in aqueous solution, tablet form, or capsule form. The foodstuff may include flavourings. The foodstuff may be intended for aiding/improving joints and/or preventing, reducing or delaying joint or muscle pain symptoms. The ratio of glucosamine to MSM to chondroitin may be 10:10:4. The ratio of GH to NADH may be 11:1. The foodstuff may additionally include one or more of Vitamin C, magnesium sulphate, zinc sulphate monohydrate, copper bisglycinate and copper chelate. A method of manufacturing such a foodstuff by combining at least one of GH, NADH, MSM, CS and HA with piperine or an isomer thereof is also claimed. Piperine is included in the foodstuff or composition to enhance the bioavailability of the other active substances.
