Disclosed is a method of designing a virtual 3D model of a dental restoration for a target site of a patient's set of teeth, said method comprising: obtaining a digital 3D representation of the set of teeth, said digital 3D representation comprising a section corresponding to the target site； determining an insertion path for the dental restoration to the target site； and designing the virtual 3D model of the dental restoration based on the digital 3D representation of the set of teeth, where the designing comprises generating an outer surface of the virtual 3D model, where the determined insertion path and the outer surface of the designed virtual 3D model provide that a dental restoration manufactured from the designed virtual 3D model can be moved along the insertion path to the target site.L'invention concerne un procédé de conception d'un modèle tridimensionnel (3D) virtuel d'une restauration dentaire pour un site cible de l'ensemble de dents d'un patient, ledit procédé comprenant : l'obtention d'une représentation 3D numérique de l'ensemble de dents, ladite représentation 3D numérique comprenant une section correspondant au site cible ； la détermination d'un trajet d'introduction pour la restauration dentaire au niveau du site cible ； et la conception du modèle 3D virtuel de la restauration dentaire sur la base de la représentation 3D numérique de l'ensemble de dents, la conception comprenant la génération d'une surface externe du modèle 3D virtuel, le trajet d'introduction déterminé et la surface externe du modèle 3D virtuel conçu permettant qu'une restauration dentaire fabriquée à partir du modèle 3D virtuel conçu puisse se déplacer le long du trajet d'introduction vers le site cible.
