PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for promoting the rooting of a cutting, which can prevent the eluviation of a rooting-promoting agent by a large amount of watering from the cut base portion of a scion and prevent the run-off of the rooting-promoting agent from a cutting bed and can further improve the lowering of a rooting rate and an action efficiency due to the decrease in the concentration of the rooting-promoting agent. SOLUTION: This method for promoting the rooting of the cutting comprises treating the cut base portion of a branch cut from a herb, a woody plant, or an angiosperm as a scion with a rooting-promoting agent (an oxine compound) and chitosan, and then covering the treated portion with diatomite, or coating the cut base portion with diatomite of porous substance containing the rooting- promoting agent (the oxine compound and the chitosan). Thereby, the eluviation of a rooting-promoting agent by a large amount of watering can be prevented.
