PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric field generator capable of removing or inactivating particulate substances of any type with high efficiency, and an air conditioner, an air cleaner, and an air blower having the same.SOLUTION: The electric field generator includes an electric field generating element 10, a high voltage power supply 16, a sensor 2, and a controller 17. The electric field generating element 10 generates an electric field when a voltage is applied to it. The high voltage power supply 16 applies a voltage to the electric field generating element 10. The sensor 2 detects particulate substances in the air. The controller 17 switches the voltage applied to the electric field generating element 10 from the high voltage power supply 16 between a pulse voltage and a DC voltage, on the basis of detection results from the sensor 2.
