A method and system for remotely monitoring intoxication of a user, including: detecting a vehicle-user interaction； prompting the user to provide a breath sample, in response to detecting the vehicle-user interaction； transmitting a breath sample signal, derived from reception of the breath sample from the user, to a mobile computing device； determining a value of an intoxication metric for the user based upon the breath sample signal； and based upon the value of the intoxication metric, performing an action to deter operation of the vehicle by the user.
