The invention refers to an apparatus for internal fixation of a fracture comprising an elongated rod (100) with a head (105), a stem (108), a longitudinal axis (10) with a curved segment located in a lateral-medial plane, and a curved segment (303) located in an anterior-posterior plane, and holes (110, 111, 112; 120, 121) for reception of fixing elements extending transversely to the longitudinal axis (10) through the rod (100). A plurality of spiraling flutes (109) is located along a portion of said rod (100) for guiding and orienting the rod (100) about its longitudinal axis (10) during its insertion, wherein the orientation of the spiraling flutes (109) changes by approximately 90° angular rotation about the longitudinal axis (10) of the rod (100), as these spiraling flutes (109) travel from their start point to their termination point.
