More particularly, the invention relates to use of an agent that modulates the podoplanin pathway, such as by inhibiting an interaction of podoplanin with CLEC-2 or inhibiting the activity of Src and/or Syk family kinases for the treatment or prophylaxis of acute liver failure, as well as a method for determining the efficacy of treatment of acute liver failure.
