A data acquisition device (100) for monitoring the history of use of a medical device (10), wherein the medical device is characterized in that it has a self-test circuit for detecting problems in the device, comprising: an environmental condition sensor (110) configured to collect data about environment; memory (120) associated with the medical device, the memory being configured to record operational data from the medical device, and with the ability to record environmental data from an environmental condition sensor; a wireless transceiver (130) configured to transmit environmental and operational data; an controller (150) associated with an environmental sensor, a memory and a transceiver, which is configured to transmit environmental data and operational data before a detected malfunction in a medical device. 2. The data acquisition device according to claim 1, wherein the wireless transceiver is further configured to receive instructions in order to modify a standard maintenance program, and the controller is further configured to transmit instructions to a medical device.
