A method of attaching a grip tab to an edge of a releasable carrier layer of afilm dressing web isdisclosed. The web includes a film layer on a first side coated with adhesive.A carrier layer isreleasably attached to a second side of the film layer. The method includes:choosing material for thecarrier layer that is incompatible with the film layer from a heat weldingpoint of view, a feeding saidfilm dressing web in a machine direction, applying at least one strip of amaterial compatible with thecarrier layer from a heat welding point of view along an edge portion of aside of the web, fixing saidat least one strip to the carrier layer and simultaneously cutting away a partof the web with the at leastone strip applied thereto by passing the web through an ultrasonic weldingdevice.
