A system for applying a reduced pressure to a tissue site includes a source of reduced pressure, a porous pad for exchanging fluid with a source of reduced pressure, and a drape that can be placed over the porous pad to seal the porous pad at the tissue site. The porous pad includes a plurality of channel walls to form a plurality of channels between the channel walls. The channel wall is substantially liquid impermeable to prevent movement of liquid through the channel wall, but is gas permeable to allow movement of the gas through the channel wall as the reduced pressure acts on the tissue site.
