This invention relates to compositions containing quaternary ammonium compounds in which the nitrogen atom is substituted by at least one alkyl group having at least 12 carbon atoms, characterized in that said composition includes at least 20% in weight by weight of the total composition, of ammonium halides in which the nitrogen atom is substituted by at least one alkyl group having at least 14 carbon atoms and more than 5%, preferably more than 7% in weight by weight of the total composition, of ammonium halides in which the nitrogen atom is substituted by at least one alkyl group having at least 16 carbon atoms. This invention also relates to ophthalmic oil-in-water emulsions containing such compositions, said ophthalmic emulsions being useful for eye care or for the treatment of eye conditions.본 발명은 암모늄기의 질소 원자가 탄소 원자 수 12개 이상인 1종 이상의 알킬기로 치환된 4급 암모늄 화합물을 함유하는 조성물에 관한 것으로, 상기 조성물은 상기 조성물 총중량 대비 질소 원자가 탄소 원자 수가 14개 이상인 1종 이상의 알킬기로 치환된 할로겐화암모늄 20 %w/w 이상과, 상기 조성물의 총중량 대비 질소 원자가 탄소 원자 수가 16개 이상인 1종 이상의 알킬기로 치환된 할로겐화암모늄 5 %w/w 이상, 좋기로는 7 %w/w 이상을 함유하는 것이 특징이다. 또한, 본 발명은 상기 조성물을 함유하는 안과용 수중유 에멀션에 관한 것으로, 상기 안과용 에멀션은 눈의 관리 또는 눈병의 치료를 위하여 유용하다.
