A modular incubator comprising an end unit 102 and a patient enclosure 104 wherein the end unit 102 provides a support function and the patient enclosure 104 is reversibly detachable for sterilisation or disposal. The patient enclosure 104 may be flexible and inflatable, have an inner liner 106 and allow the device to be collapsed. The end unit 102 may supply air, water and power and incorporate measurement means. The incubator may be mountable on a trolley. Also disclosed is a housing for an incubator wherein air for an incubator is channelled through an air gap so that it enters at one end of the incubator flows alongside the chamber before entering the patient enclosure through apertures at a second end. Also disclosed is an arrangement wherein inlet apertures for receiving air are spaced along a chamber and increase in size so that larger ones are spaced further from the air source.
