A scent based rodent and insect repellent product comprises a combination of: naturally occurring oils including base note oils, middle note oils and high note oils; and organic, substantially odour-less carrier that is non-reactive with the oils and adapted for absorbing or mixing with the oils; and a fixator for reducing the evaporation rate of the high note oils. The oils are selected to include main active ingredients monoterpenes, ketones, aldehydes and coumarins. Preferably the oils may also include sesquiterpenes, phenols and alcohols. The oils may be selected from the group cedar oil, rosemary oil, citronella oil, abies balsamea, grapefruit oil, peppermint oil, cypress oil, lavender spike, patchouli, lemon oil, tansy oil, clove oil, eucalyptus oil dives, pine oil and/or oil from the Buchu plant. The carrier can be a plant cellulose fibre selected from one or more of corn cob, kenaf core and cork chips; or may be an un-denatured, odourless alcohol or dipropylene; or a silica based solvent. The fixator may be patchouli oil or glycerine.
