Disclosed herein are capsaicinoid formulations and treatments that can be used to treat / attenuate pain in mammals. Typically, administration is through injections at individual sites to provide pain relief for extended periods of time. The formulation is administered in a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle. The formulation includes a sufficient amount of analgesic to attenuate the burning and hyperalgesic effects of capsaicinoid administration.
