A method in a base station (603) for communicating with user equipment (605) in a communication network (600), wherein the base station (603) is configured to communicate with user equipment (605) in accordance with a choice of at least two categories of user equipment, the method comprising: determining (702a, 702b, 702c, 702d, 802) based on information about the selected category of user equipment of the first number of maximum transmission levels supported by the base station (603)； and communicating (703a, 704b, 702c, 704d, 805) with user equipment (605) in accordance with the determined first number of maximum transmission levels inclusive and in accordance with the selected category of user equipment. 2. The method according to claim 1, further comprising: transmitting (702a, 702b, 702d, 804) to the user equipment (605) information about the first number of maximum transmission levels.
