PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil or fatty acid formulation, an application of the formulation, for example, application as a fuel, and a method for obtaining an oil or fatty acid formulation.SOLUTION: The oil or fatty acid formulation contains 50% or more of a medium chain fatty acid or a fatty acid alkyl ester thereof, and has a low melting point. The formulation is useful as a fuel, for example, a starting material for producing biodiesel. A genetically altered or modified plant is also provided, in which modification is carried out to increase an amount of a medium chain fatty acid produced by the plant. A method for predicting a melting point of a fatty acid methyl ester formulation is provided.
