The method comprises the steps of: placing a subject in a main magnetic field of an MR imaging system introducing an MR-compatible electrode catheter (1) with an MR receive antenna (3) into the subject acquiring a magnetic resonance io signal using the MR receive antenna while the subject is in the main magnetic field generating magnetic resonance images using the signal from the MR receive antenna to determine the location of the MR-compatible electrode catheter while the subject is in the main magnetic field and using the MR-compatible electrode catheter to acquire electrical signals indicative of an electrophysiological state of target tissue of is the subject while the subject is in the main magnetic field. 2452059-1
