A method for discharging a harvested crop (52, B) from a crop accumulator (16) and a combination of a harvester (14) and a crop accumulator (16) is disclosed. The method comprising: (110) establishing at least one virtual trip line (T) (114) commencing a harvest operation transferring the harvested crop (52, B) to the crop accumulator (16) communicating that at least one of: (122) the virtual trip line (T) is being approached, the virtual trip line (T) is being crossed, and the virtual trip line (T) has been crossed (128) actuating a discharge system (64) of the crop accumulator (16), in response to the communication, to discharge one of: a portion of the harvested crop (52, B) and all of the harvested crop (52, B) from the crop accumulator (16) and depositing the harvested crop (52, B) according to at least one of the following: on the virtual trip line (T), adjacent to the virtual trip line (T), in a zone defined by a predetermined distance from the virtual trip line (T), and outside of a zone defined by a predetermined distance from the virtual trip line (T).
