The stethoscope is an acoustic medical device for auscultation, or listening to the internal sounds of an animal or human body. It typically has a small disc-shaped resonator that is placed against the chest, and two tubes connected to earpieces. It is often used to listen to lung and heart sounds. It is also used to listen to intestines and blood flow in arteries and veins. In combination with a sphygmomanometer, it is commonly used for measurements of blood pressure. Since there are drawbacks to a mechanical stethoscope, such as not able to record the sounds, not able to process the sounds and low intensity of sounds. electronic stethoscopes are designed. Following is a commercially available electronic stethoscope. My Digital stethoscope is designed by fixing a condenser microphone in the tubing near the diaphragm of the conventional stethoscope. The output of the microphone is given to the analogue to usb converter device that digitalizes the sound. Anti alias audio filter is used to filter the high pitch sounds so that the lower pitch sounds such as heart sounds and bowel sounds should be loudly heard. The output of the usb is connected to an android device or a computer where it is heard, processed and recorded by a variety of free applications available in the android market.
