The invention discloses a sheath (500) based puncture (506) locator and depth indicator. The invention provides for locating a blood vessel puncture site (506) and determining the depth of the puncture (506) of the blood vessel (508) extravascularly using the introducer sheath (500) that is already in place within the tissue tract. The invention also provides for positioning the introducer sheath (500) extravascularly or outside the blood vessel (508), controlling the blood vessel puncture site (506), and delivering a hemostasis promoting material (20) to a blood vessel puncture site (506).Cette invention a trait à un localisateur de piqûre dans un vaisseau sanguin et à un indicateur de profondeur utilisant une gaine. Il est possible, grâce à cette invention, de localiser, dans un vaisseau sanguin, une région où lon a fait une piqûre et de mesurer extravasculairement la profondeur de cette piqûre et ce, au moyen dune gaine dintroduction déjà en place à lintérieur de la voie tissulaire. Elle permet également de positionner la gaine dintroduction extravasculairement ou à lextérieur du vaisseau, dagir sur la région piquée et dintroduire dans le vaisseau une matière favorisant lhémostase.
