Provided are liquid pharmaceutical formulations comprising a hypoglycaemic sulphonamide, at least one thickener, a buffer system maintaining the pH between 4 and 8, and a preservative. The formulations are intended for oral or ophthalmic administration. A preferred hypoglycaemic sulphonamide is glibenclamide. In a preferred embodiment the thickener is a cellulose derivative and a polysaccharide, the buffer system contains lactic acid and sodium citrate, and the preservative is selected from benzoic acid and its sodium or potassium salts.
