The present invention relates to CD31shed agonists for use in the prevention and/or treatment of reperfusion injury. These CD31shed agonists are peptides or peptidomimetics thereof that are able to restore CD31 signaling in cells bearing a truncated form of CD31 called CD31shed. The CD31shed agonists according to the invention particularly protect from organ damages caused by reperfusion used to treat ischemia.
