A uniaxially compressed dosage form manufactured by three-dimensional printingthat preserves the predetermined internal architecture of the dosage formwhile producing an improved surface finish. The compression compacts thedosage form, eliminating at least some of the void space that remains at theend of conventional three-dimensional printing. Surface finish obtained as aresult of the uniaxial compression process can be essentially equal to thatobtained from conventional tablet pressing. Additionally, the internalstructure or spatial variation of composition of the dosage form is preservedduring the pressing operation, with geometric shrinkage occurring mostly inthe direction of the axis of pressing. Further, as a result of compression, agreater quantity of API can be packed into a given final volume of dosage form.
