The urine collection system (10) includes a urine meter (20), a collection member (30) defining at least a first opening (132) for receiving urine from the urine meter (20) and a shield (102) positioned adjacent the opening of the collection member (30). The shield (102) is affixed to the collection member (30) at predetermined connection points along a periphery of the shield whereby urine flows between the io connection points from the urine meter (20) to the collection member (30). The shield (102) may be affixed to an internal surface of the bag. The shield (102) may be spot welded to the collection member (30) at the connection points.
