PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating liquid for transparent film formation comprising hydrophobic metal oxide particles and a hydrophobic matrix-forming component, wherein the hydrophobic metal oxide particles are excellent in dispersibility in a resin and are capable of forming a transparent film excellent in haze, transparency, scratch resistance, strength, alkali resistance, etc., and the resultant transparent film does not cause whitening while excellent in surface flatness; a substrate with a transparent film formed by using the coating liquid for transparent film formation; and a method for producing the hydrophobic metal oxide particles.
SOLUTION: In the coating liquid for transparent film formation, the hydrophobic metal oxide particle has a monoalkylsilyl group and a trialkylsilyl group on the surface thereof and an average particle size in the range of 5-300 nm. The content of the monoalkylsilyl group as a solid content (R-SiO
3/2 ) is in the range of 1-50 wt.% of the metal oxide
