PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medical image processor which allows a user to view the thickness of a tissue more intuitively than conventional types, and a medical image processing method.SOLUTION: The medical image processor includes: an image generation unit which generates a projection image on a diagnostic object by setting a view point or a visual field flat surface and a light source sandwiching at least a part of voxel data of the diagnostic object for volume data on the diagnostic object and using the set view point or the visual field flat surface and the light source, a transmittance of light which attenuates in the voxel data existing between the view point or the visual field flat surface and the light source and the volume data； and a display unit which displays the generated projection image in a prescribed form.【課題】従来に比して、組織の厚み等を直感的に視認可能な医用画像処理装置及び医用画像処理方法を提供することを目的としている。【解決手段】診断対象に関するボリュームデータに対し、前記診断対象の少なくとも一部のボクセルデータを挟んで視点又は視野平面と光源とを設定し、前記設定された視点又は視野平面及び光源と、前記視点又は視野平面と前記光源との間に存在するボクセルデータにおいて減衰する光の透過率と、前記ボリュームデータと、を用いて、前記診断対象に関する投影画像を生成する画像生成ユニットと、前記生成された投影画像を所定の形態にて表示する表示ユニットと、を具備することを特徴とする医用画像処理装置である。【選択図】 図６
