The invention relates to a magnetocardiographic method comprising the following steps:a) Measuring a component of the heart magnetic field at a plurality of positions above the heart of a subject using a plurality of magnetic field sensors during at least part of the cardiac cycle comprising the ST-T segment of the sinus rhythm of the heart, andb) Determining, using the magnetic field data measured by the plurality of magnetic field sensors, the monopolarity of the magnetic field at at least one given point in time or over at least one given time period during the ST-T segment of the sinus rhythm of the heart, the monopolarity of the magnetic field representing a measure for the deviation of the magnetic field from a dipolar shape.The invention further relates to a magnetocardiographic system arranged for carrying out the method, to a computer implemented method for identifying and quantifying ischemia, and a data carrier comprising a computer program for carrying out the method.
