An electromagnetic beam scanning system and a method of using the same are provided. This system includes a motor, a reciprocating mechanism and a focusing optics. The motor is configured to generate rotational movement. The reciprocating mechanism is operatively coupled with the motor and is configured to convert the rotational movement into a reciprocating movement comprising a plurality of strokes along the first scan axis. The reciprocating movement has a constant speed over a portion of at least one of the plurality of strokes. The focusing optics are operatively coupled to the reciprocating mechanism so that the focusing optics move and experience the reciprocating movement of the reciprocating mechanism.
