A push rod mechanism for a garden tool and a garden tool with said mechanism. The push rod mechanism (2) for the garden tool comprises a first push rod (21). The first push rod (21) is pivotally connected to a rear part of a main body of the garden tool and can be locked at least when rotated to an in-use position or to a stored position. An actuator and a locking component are provided at the first push rod (21). The push rod mechanism (2) also comprises a second push rod (22) movably connected to the first push rod (21). The second push rod (22) can trigger or release the actuator when moved to a preset position. The main body of the garden tool is provided with a position sensor. The position sensor is used to generate a sensing signal when the first push rod rotates to the in-use position or to the stored position. When the second push rod (22) is pressed, the push rods can be unlocked or locked, achieving position limiting after the push rods have been folded for convenient prototype packaging, thereby reducing costs. The main body of the garden tool is provided with the position sensor, preventing accidental start-up of machinery and improving safety.
