PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide effective utilization of chaff which is a byproduct of farm products, especially as a medium for inexpensively culturing a mushroom with high productivity by promoting the growth of mycelia of the mushroom and the formation of carpophores, and to provide a culture method of the mushroom using the chaff. SOLUTION: The chaff subjected to extraction treatment with an aqueous solvent is utilized as the agent for promoting the growth of the mycelia and the formation of the carpophores. The medium for culturing the mushroom contains the agent for promoting the growth of the mycelia and the formation of the carpophores. The growth of the mycelia and the formation of the carpophores are promoted by culturing the mushroom by using the medium for culturing the mushroom to enable the productivity of the mushroom to be improved by an inexpensive means.
