The bed i.e. birthing bed (1), has two distinct modules e.g. table (2) and removable stool (4), adapted to move relative to each other to pass from a separated position toward a retracted position through a connected position. The modules include connection units that mechanically secure the connected position irrespective of height at which one module is located and preliminary position of the module relative to the other module. The connection units ensure an electric connection controlling the former module from a central control system of the table in the connected position.L'invention a pour objet un lit à usage médical du type comportant deux modules distincts (2, 4), un premier module formant table (2) et un deuxième module formant tabouret (4) amovible, comportant chacun un pied (10, 54), réglable en hauteur indépendamment du réglage en hauteur du pied de l'autre module. Les deux modules sont en outre adaptés à se déplacer l'un par rapport à l'autre de manière à prendre plusieurs positions parmi lesquelles une position connectée, dans laquelle le tabouret est rendu solidaire de la table. Les deux modules portent des moyens de connexion (72) adaptés à sécuriser mécaniquement la position connectée des modules et assurant simultanément, dans ladite position connectée, une liaison électrique permettant de commander le deuxième module à partir d'un système central de commande (21) fixé sur la table.
