Accordingly, there are provided coated microcapsules including: a microcapsule including a polymeric shell and a liquid core material encapsulated therein and a metallic coating surrounding said microcapsule, wherein the metallic coating includes particles of a first metal adsorbed on said polymeric shell and a film of a second metal formed thereon wherein the particles of the first metal are adsorbed on said polymeric shell by contacting the polymeric shell with a reducing agent and a solution comprising ions of the first metal, thereby reducing said ions and forming particles of the first metal adsorbed on said polymeric shell method and formulations related thereto are also provided.
