The present invention relates to a composition for treating a bacterial infection comprising an extract from a bark of Alnus pendula, or diarylheptanoid compound as an active ingredient. The extract from a bark of Alnus pendula, diarylheptanoid compound of the present composition has a remarkably excellent anti-bacterial activity against bacteria, specifically Staphylococcus aureus. Therefore, the extract and compound of the present invention may be utilized as an active ingredient of drug, cosmetics, functional food and animal feed for treating bacterial infection, in particular an infection of S. aureus.본 발명은 좀사방오리나무(Alnus pendula Matsum) 수피 추출물 또는 이로부터 분리된 디아릴헵타노이드(diarylheptanoid)계 화합물인 오레고닌 또는 허수테논을 유효성분으로 포함하는 항균 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명 조성물의 유효성분인 좀사방오리나무 수피 추출물 및 이로부터 분리된 오레고닌 또는 허수테논은 항균 활성, 특히 황색포도상구균(Staphylococcus aureus)에 대해 매우 우수한 항균 활성을 나타낸다. 본 발명의 추출물 및 화합물은 세균, 특히 피부에 감염성이 높은 황색포도상구균에 대에 뛰어한 항균 활성을 가지므로, 황색포도상구균에 의한 감염증을 치료, 예방 또는 완화시킬 수 있는 약물, 화장료, 기능성 식품 및 동물 사료의 활성성분으로 개발될 수 있다.
