PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medicine packaging apparatus which eliminates the need of a tension bar for applying a tension to an ink ribbon and to provide an ink ribbon roll useful for the medicine packaging apparatus.SOLUTION: A medicine packaging apparatus includes: a reader-writer 54 which reads information from an IC tag 100 provided on a supply core 31 of an ink ribbon roll provided attachably and detachably on an ink ribbon cassette 3 and writes information； a motor control unit 56 which controls a winding motor for rotating a winding core 32 on the basis of the information read from the IC tag 100； and a writing information output unit 53 for outputting information which exhibits a used amount of an ink ribbon changed by usage of the ink ribbon to the reader-writer 54 as the information for writing into the IC tag 100.
