The sensor system includes a plurality of sensors configured to sense a force applied by a user's foot on the sensor. Each sensor includes two electrodes in communication with a force-sensing resistive material. The electrodes and the force-sensing resistive material may be multi-lobed. Additionally, the sensor system may be provided with an insert capable of forming a sole member of the footwear item.
