The invention relates to methods for producing at least one orthodontic setup, comprising a) placing tooth models in a model of a mandibular arch or of a segment of said mandibular arch having an embedding material in such a way that the actual state of a tooth configuration of a patient is reproduced in order to obtain a model of the tooth configuration ("typodont"), b) attaching at least one tensile element indirectly or directly to at least one or at least two tooth models in such a way that a tension or compression is applied to the tooth model or tooth models, c) simulating an orthodontic correction motion in the model of the tooth configuration ("typodont") on the basis of the applied tension or compression by (i) reducing the viscosity of the embedding material or parts thereof, (ii) at least partially removing the embedding material, d) recording at least two transitional stages ("frames") of the simulated orthodontic correction motion in the model of the tooth configuration ("typodont") by means of an imaging method or a tracking method, e) obtaining digital data, which indirectly or directly describe the positions of at least one tooth model in the model of the tooth configuration with respect to at least two recorded transitional stages, and f) producing at least one orthodontic setup of a transitional stage, wherein said setup is based indirectly or directly on a model that has been produced by means of a CAM technique on the basis of the digital data obtained in such a way.
