The bottle assembly has a container open at one end and a vent assembly that is positionable on at least a portion of the rim of the container and allows venting of the container during use. The vent assembly generally comprises a vent insert and a receptacle portion releasably connectable to the vent insert. The vent insert includes an annular lip longitudinally associated with the container when positioned over the position of the vent assembly at the edge of the container. The annular lip has a transverse inner surface, the inner surface of which has one of a catch and a latch. The top of the receptacle includes a transverse outer surface whose outer surface has the other of a catch or a latch and the top of the receptacle has an annular lip to releasably engage the receptacle with the vent insert .
