A spraying apparatus 1 has a mixing chute 13 with an intake for introduction of a material to be sprayed into the mixing chute and a fluid inlet 14 for introduction of fluid into the mixing chute. The spraying apparatus also has a tank 6 and an outlet from the mixing chute leading directly or indirectly to the tank. The mixing chute is configured to cause turbulent flow of fluid that is introduced from the fluid inlet to promote mixing of the material and the fluid and is positioned above the tank such that mixed fluid or suspension passes from the mixing chute downwards into the tank. The spraying apparatus may comprise structural features to cause turbulent flow, such as baffles, walls ramps, deflectors and the like. The spraying apparatus may also include a pump arranged to pump fluid to the fluid inlet, and may cause fluid to flow from the tank to the fluid inlet for introduction of fluid to the mixing chute, the fluid then flowing back into the tank.
