An implant structure for insertion into the spine from the front is provided. The implant includes a body portion (200) and a cover (220) that contain one or more blades (241, 242) attached to a blade moving element (260). Each blade 241, 242 engages a corresponding channel of the blade moving element 260. As the blade moving element 260 is driven proximally inwardly or distally outwardly, one or more blades 241, 242 extend or retract. Each blade 241, 242 is reinforced by a bridge portion 1350 formed along the distal side of the blade 241, 242.
