The cartridge of the surgical instrument includes a housing, a lead screw mounted for rotation within the housing, a drive member operatively connected to the lead screw, and a knife member. The knife member is configured to be driven distally by the drive member and to cut when moved in the distal direction. During the initial distal movement of the drive member, the knife member is connected with the housing to prevent the knife member from moving in the distal direction.
