Provided are methods for prophylaxis and/or therapy of cancer that include administering to an individual in need thereof an effective amount of a ß-blocker and an immune checkpoint inhibitor such that growth of cancer in the individual is inhibited. Patients include those diagnosed with or at risk for a wide variety of cancer types. Methods are provided for cancer treatment in individuals who are resistant to checkpoint inhibitor monotherapies. Greater than additive anti-cancer effects may be achieved.
