A fluid absorption mat for use in a medical environment, the fluid absorption mat being a substantially planar mat having at least one fluid absorption layer. At least two absorption portions (1,2), presenting substantially juxtaposed projections on a principle plane of the mat, and present different absorption capacities are provided. Furthermore, use of the fluid absorption mat in a medical environment is provided.
