Polyglycerol composition containing one or more polyglycerol compounds having: (a) a nodular structure containing at least three adjacent glycerol residues; (b) one or more cationic groups, each of which is associated with a nodal structure of an independently selected linking group; and (c) one or more hydrophobic residues, each of which independently (i) is connected to the nodal structure by a linking group or (ii) is part of one or more cationic groups, the average degree of polymerization of the composition determined by measuring the hydroxyl number (DP) is from about 3 to about 20.2.
