The present invention provides a composition for film-like external preparation, which does not form residue by the film-forming agent during of after using, and has excellent usability. The composition for film-like external preparation of the present invention contains a water soluble cellulose derivative as main component and contains hydroxyethyl urea. Also, the composition for film-like external preparation is preferably prepared by drying an aqueous solution containing the water soluble cellulose derivative by 50 mass% or more and hydroxyethyl urea by 0.01 to 10 mass%. Also, the water soluble cellulose derivative is preferably a hydroxypropyl methylcellulose.
