Water-based hydrogel polymer coatings, and methods of application to natural rubber or other elastomer latex products are provided. An aqueous hydrogel polymer is blended with a blend of at least one elastomeric material to provide a hydrogel polymer blend composition. The aqueous hydrogel polymer blend composition is applied in a single application to an elastomeric article, such as a glove, without additional acid or chemical priming steps and no additional solvent in the polymer blend composition.
