The present invention relates to a standing chlorine dioxide generator that contains an aqueous gel for generating chlorine dioxide by simply opening the lid, wherein there is little chlorine smell when the lid is opened, and the aqueous gel is maintained in a gel state until the lid is opened. This chlorine dioxide generator has an aqueous gel containing a chlorite stored within a lidded container. The chlorine dioxide generator is characterized in that the aqueous gel is obtained by gelling with a water-absorbing resin, the aqueous gel contains a chlorine absorber such as an organic or inorganic ammonium salt and, as necessary, an inorganic thickener, and the container is filled with the aqueous gel. The chlorine dioxide generator exhibits a disinfecting and deodorizing effect by gradually generating chlorine dioxide.
