The present invention relates to artificial saliva composition. The present invention further relates to a novel amphiphilic substitute for saliva which can be used in Xerostomia and in side effect of radiation therapy for the treatment of cancer. The artificial saliva composition of the present invention further relates to the use of saliva substitute for drug delivery which also ensures sustained release of both hydrophilic and hydrophobic drugs.
