A device to aid in the removal of a displaced contact lens comprises a main body 10, a lower front panel 11, an upper front panel 12 with a high friction surface 17 provided thereon which in use is placed against the cheek to pull the eye lid down, a back panel 13, a concave mirror 14, a means 15, 15a to secure the front panels closed, a button 16 to operate an ultra-violet light source 18. The back panel 13 can be hinged to allow it to open for access to the interior of the main body 10, which has space for the circuitry and power source for the ultra-violet light source 18 and which can be used to keep items such as a container of fluorescein sodium which reacts to uv light, and spare contact lenses.
