Procedure for producing a holy thistle flower extract with a silymarin-release rate of >；= 80%, comprises obtaining an extract containing 15-85 wt.%, preferably 30-65 wt.% of silymarin with water-free alcohol, optionally filtering and concentrating the extract and subsequently drying and optionally comminuting. Independent claims are included for: (1) the holy thistle flower extract obtained by the above method, and exhibiting amorphous crystalline modification, where the crystalline portion amounts to less than 20%, preferably less than 7%； and (2) a pharmaceutical preparation comprising the extract.
