The invention relates to a use of Alpinia zerumbe seed extracts for whitening and anti-oxidation by applying an effective does of the Alpinia zerumbe seed extracts to skin. The Alpinia zerumbe seed extracts can be used to inhibit tyrosinase activities, melanin synthesis, lipoxygenase-1 (LOX-1) activities and lipid peroxidation and to scavenge NO free radicals and DPPH free radicals. Accordingly, the Alpinia zerumbe seed extracts can be further utilized in manufacturing cosmetic compositions or food additives for whitening and anti-oxidation.
